Organic Modern Bathroom Remodel

A bathroom can be highly functional without feeling ordinary. This bathroom remodel in Winona, Minnesota, was designed to feel layered, refined, and timeless while still bringing in a strong sense of personality.
The overall style leans warm and modern, with subtle organic and Art Deco influences. White oak, marble mosaics, bold wallpaper, champagne bronze, and matte black were intentionally combined to create contrast without making the space feel visually busy. The result is a bathroom that feels curated rather than overly matched, with each material contributing to the overall composition.

A Statement Vanity Wall
The vanity wall became one of the defining design moments in the room. The white oak double vanity introduces warmth and natural texture, grounding the space against the lighter tile and wall finishes. Black arched medicine cabinets create a strong architectural contrast against the Spoonflower wallpaper accent wall. The wallpaper adds movement and pattern, while the black detailing helps visually frame the wall and gives the room a more tailored feel.
Champagne bronze faucets and brass light fixtures bring in a softer metallic warmth, creating a deliberate contrast with the black vanity hardware and mirror frames.
Using Mixed Metals Intentionally
One of the strongest design elements in this bathroom is the mix of matte black and champagne bronze finishes.
Rather than choosing one finish for every fixture, each metal was given a specific role within the design. Matte black appears on the vanity hardware, mirrors, shower door, and towel accessories, creating visual structure and repetition throughout the room. Champagne bronze is used on the Delta plumbing fixtures and paired with brass-toned lighting, adding warmth and a subtle sense of luxury.
Because both finishes are repeated throughout the space, the combination feels intentional and balanced. Mixed metals tend to work best when there is a clear dominant relationship between them and enough repetition to establish continuity. Here, black provides definition while champagne bronze softens the palette and connects beautifully with the natural tones of the white oak.
Layered Tile in the Shower
The shower features beautiful TileBar tile. We installed a high varitation tile with a handcrafted look on the shower walls in a soldier stack pattern, giving the shower a clean, architectural rhythm. The vertical orientation visually draws the eye upward and adds height to the space while still allowing the subtle variation in the tile surface to show.
A marble hexagon mosaic was used on the shower floor, introducing natural movement and a smaller scale pattern underfoot. Inside the niche, a marble penny round mosaic adds another layer of detail. Mixing tile shapes can easily become overwhelming, but keeping the materials within the same soft, neutral family allows the different patterns to complement one another rather than compete. Champagne bronze Delta fixtures provide the finishing contrast against the creamy shower tile.
Large-Format Flooring
The main bathroom floor features large-format tile from Bedrosians. Using a large format helps create a cleaner visual plane with fewer grout lines, which makes the room feel more open and refined. The subtle veining in the floor tile also works as a bridge between the white oak vanity and the natural variation found in the marble shower mosaics.
Instead of trying to make every stone pattern identical, the design allows each material to have its own character while staying within a cohesive tonal range.

Thoughtful Details
Beside the vanity, a custom recessed niche was incorporated into the wall to provide additional storage without adding visual weight to the room. Details like this are especially valuable in bathroom design because they improve function while maintaining clean sightlines. Rather than adding another cabinet or shelving unit, the niche uses the depth already available within the wall and becomes part of the architecture of the space.
The walls were painted Sherwin-Williams Greek Villa, a warm off-white that complements the white oak, marble, champagne bronze, and wallpaper without introducing another competing tone.
A Layered, Organic Modern Bathroom Remodel
What makes this bathroom successful is not any single finish or feature, but the relationship between them.
The bold wallpaper is balanced by simple cabinetry. The warmth of the white oak is contrasted by matte black hardware. Marble adds natural variation, while the soldier stack tile brings clean geometry. Champagne bronze introduces warmth and polish without becoming overly formal. Together, the elements create a bathroom that feels warm, modern, collected, and highly intentional.
It is a good example of why a well-designed neutral bathroom does not need to feel plain. By varying texture, scale, pattern, and finish, a relatively restrained color palette can still have depth, movement, and plenty of personality.
